The Children’s Center welcomes and appreciates people willing to volunteer their time and expertise to improve the educational environment for our students.
Below is a list of opportunities, it is not exclusive, we are happy to discuss individual preferences and can be flexible with time availability.
The Children’s Center Volunteer Opportunities
HELPING WITH THE CHILDREN-
Infant rooms – any time during the day but please schedule at least a day ahead so teachers will know when to expect you.
- Cuddle with the babies! Play with the babies. Help with feeding. Calm an unhappy infant.
All other classroom, ages 1 year to 5 years – morning shift 9 am-noon, afternoon shift 2-4 pm. Volunteers may choose a window of time in either shift.
Our teachers can always use assistance with our active children! You can help by:
- Reading books
- Working with children during inside activities
- Arts and Crafts
- Taking children to Jarvis Park (with the teacher)
- Helping out on the playground
- Working one on one with a child having a difficult day
- Assist with meals
- Help getting children down for naps
- Keeping our classrooms organized and clean is always an area where help is needed.
After School Program – 3 pm-6 pm
- Help with snacks
- Accompany children to the bathroom
- Assist children with the computer
- Help with projects
- Tutor a child
- Playground Helper
Summer Programs– Morning shift 9 am-noon. Afternoon shift 2-4 pm
- Chaperone field trips in our area
- Help with projects
- Help with meals and snacks
HELPING WITH OFFICE/ADMINISTRATIVE WORK-
This is an “on-call” job when help is needed, such as putting notebooks together, making copies, sending mailings, etc.
VOLUNTEERING IN THE KITCHEN-
The kitchen staff can always use extra hands in preparing meals and snacks and transporting them to the classrooms and cleaning after meals are served. Delivering supplies is also a task that can be done with volunteer help. The greatest need is during the morning, between 7 am to 11 am.
